An introductory course to Middle Eastern rhythms for ages 12-18.

Space is limited. You MUST pre-register to secure your spot and materials.

Bring a drum if you have one!

Next Session Begins April 1st

In this 10 week class, we will discover the innate rhythm within each of us. Using an easy-to-learn drum notation, we will develop our own rhythms as well as committing to memory 6 common Middle Eastern rhythms with which we can develop a dialogue with our dancing peers. By learning and playing together, we foster creativity, cooperation, and confidence. Our classes will be enriched with guest speakers, talk circles, and exercises to move us beyond our individual comfort zones. Students are strongly encouraged to bring their own percussion instrument(s) as we will have a limited number of drums in class.

We are currently seeking funding/donations so that every student in this class can hold a real drum. Drum donations are extremely appreciated as well as monetary donations. If we can raise enough money, we'd like to hold a drum-making workshop so that our students can bring a drum home!
