This year's summer camp is chock full of classes in Improvisational Tribal Style Belly Dance and Yoga, workshops that include costume making and henna, safe and open discussion circles, sisterhood and friendship. Camp will end with performance for friends and family which will begin at 5pm on Friday, July 26th.
BELLY DANCE
During Camp Amala, we will learn the beautiful art of Improvisational Tribal Stype belly dance (ITS). We will use this fundamental style on a trip along the Roma (Gypsy) Trail guiding you through specific dance moves inspired by the culture and giving you history about each region as we go. The Romani (aka Roma, Rom, etc.) culture is musical and vibrant and we look forward to sharing a glance into its origins. We are especially inspired to share this perspective with you as we have partnered with the first ever Festival Romani.
YOGA
Each day of camp will begin with yogic practice to provide an opportunity to center mind and body in preparation for the rest of the day's movement and discussion activities. We'll guide you in movements that will have you stretching and twisting, so it's important to dress in comfortable clothes. We want you to be cozy and enjoy learning to tune into your body's signals and make physical and conscientious changes toward living and feeling your best. (Yoga mats are provided by the studio, but you may bring your own.)
EXPRESSIVE ART & SISTERHOOD
Artful expression is developed during our daily workshops which include costuming, hand crafting journals to use during our discussion exercises, and percussion to name a few. We include in each day the chance to build sisterhood through sharing personal experiences and questions in a safe environment without judgment, as well as addressing pressing world issues, how they make each of us feel, and how to develop the toold to make a positive impact in one's life and the world around them.
DAILY WORKSHOPS
This year's five day camp, already packed with belly dance, yoga and sisterhood, includes seven workshops! Below is a list of what we have in store for you:
